Mental Health Awareness Week 2022
Mental Health Awareness Week took place from 9th to 15th May. Organised by the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s official theme was ‘loneliness’.
At The Up Group, we used the week to raise awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental health, and a reminder of how we can support one another as colleagues and friends. It allowed us time to reflect on our own wellbeing and to help reduce the social stigma that is still, unfortunately, attached to talking about mental health.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced many of us to confront loneliness in a new way, with a marked increase in the number of adults saying that they were often or always lonely. As our lives adjust back to hybrid working routines, we think it is important to stay connected as a company.
By raising the topic of loneliness, we hope that The Up Group team feel that they have a safe space to speak openly about any feelings they might be experiencing, as well as reaching out to those who may be at a higher risk of severe or lasting loneliness that could affect their mental health. More information on how to cope with loneliness and improve your mental health can be found here.
Throughout the week we ran various initiatives, with coffee catchups and time set aside in the diary to take part in an activity that contributed to our own personal wellbeing. Some of the team spent extra time with family, friends or pets, others got out and enjoyed the sunshine and quite a few of the team booked into that earlier gym session! Go Uppers!
